The Loveland Concert Band began as the Loveland Municipal Band in the fall of 1977. The name was changed sometime during the late 1980s. The band was formed to provide adults the enjoyment and satisfaction of performing in an ensemble. In addition to providing adults the opportunity to continue playing their band instruments, the band's goal was to provide the Loveland and surrounding communities high quality band concerts.
Currently, the Loveland Concert Band schedules four regular concert series programs, five summer series programs, one educational outreach program with a local high school and performs the finale concert for the city of Loveland's Fourth of July celebration.
Band membership has always consisted of community members from Loveland, Ft Collins and the surrounding areas. Membership in 1977 was around 60. The membership for the 2017-2018 concert series was around 75. Members come from all walks of life and have very interesting careers from teachers to airline pilots.
Education of the arts, especially instrumental education, has been another goal of the band and its members since 1977. In the early 1980s, the Loveland Concert Band established a scholarship fund. A scholarship is given to a top graduating instrumental music student from each of the four Thompson R2-J Schools each year.
Loveland Concert Band has had six musical directors. The first Director of the band was Norman Klumpp. Gil Garcia, Dean Beck, Peter Mueller, and Steve Goacher also conducted. The current Musical Director is Scott Schlup.
Now beginning a new season, the Loveland Concert Band strives to continue the purpose and goals set for the band by its members and board in 1977.
